Probate is a long and frustrating process. Difficult on its own, probate is further complicated by its proximity to grieving and end-of-life complexities. I’ve found that those who prepared well for death also prepared well for inheritance and other post-death concerns. I wanted to be prepared too, but I didn’t know where to start.
Thankfully Atul Gawande, a physician, published Being Mortal, a wonderful guide to these issues.
In this tidy little book, he presents a wide range of medical topics from a distinctly human perspective. In facing tragic situations head-on, he displays a clarity not often seen in modern writing on mortality. The main focus is end-of-life care, assisted living, and related aging issues. He shows how the quality of life, including the quality of one’s death, is often higher in hospice care as compared to the traditional high-intervention hospital model.
Quality of care is often more important than the quantity of care. That’s our approach, too. Call us if you’d like more information about our quality probate support.
